Not every method works for every child; with one exception, patience. I demonstrate and exemplify patience. My teaching style is simple. I start with the basics, then build on that each time I meet with the student. In addition, it is critical that the tutor is doing age-appropriate practice exercises with the student. In addition, there has to be a lot of variety. Students do get bored. I don't like to constantly use a worksheet. I would prefer to enhance the lesson with some hands-on activities, or games. It really makes a difference, especially with the younger students.
