I am an undergrad at HACC majoring in Biology. I excel in English, math, basic human biology, environmental science, & study skills. I hope to become a high school teacher someday. I wish to become a tutor currently to build experience working one on one with student. Everybody learns differently and I hope to bridge any gaps in whatever subject. First, I examine what is needed to be helped with. Next, I sit down and ask the student what he or she seems to be struggling with and why. I can help students of any skill level improve their writing. I have been playing chess for close to seven years, many of those at the tournament level. I was a natural when I started, and have only grown in my concepts of the logic and theory of the game. I worked as a peer tutor in the Writing Center at the University of Delaware for 2 years. I worked on all phases of the writing process, from brainstorming to revisions and final drafts. I have also tutored first year college students in the social sciences, in particular in history and government. As far as writing, the best approach depends on the phases. I have always acted as an instructor and guide. I help a student develop and process ideas. In the brainstorming phase, I may help a student generate ideas by suggesting different areas and working on "thought clouds." We may also do a "free write" and then discuss the ideas that were generated. During the writing process I help guide students in the development of outlines and structure.
