I enjoy watching learners succeed. I have the ability to diagnose learning weaknesses in a student, effectively plan a course to re mediate the student's learning weakness, implement a set of steps to assist the student to take the weakness and turn it to a strength building upon already mastered skills, and evaluate the success of the student's efforts and move on or re-teach based upon the student's needs. My original interest was teaching instrumental music. Although I changed majors and ultimately graduated with a BS in Computer Science, I have continued my interest in teaching, first by volunteer tutoring during college and later by helping adults learn to speak English. I eventually took an intensive summer course in teaching English to speakers of other languages, following which I spent over three years teaching conversational English in Central Asia. Upon returning to the States I worked for a few years for a literacy council, helping administratively and also teaching workplace English. A Little Bit About Me...

While completing my BBA and MA degrees at Wichita State University, I worked for Student Support Services, a TRIO program located on campus. For eight years I tutored low-income and first generation university students serviced by the program. By utilizing innovative tutoring techniques, I achieved a high success rate. In fact, several of my students graduated from university with honors, a goal initially thought to be unachievable. Statistics have revealed that only thirty three percent of students graduate from university, a dismal situation to say the least. I have an overwhelming desire to increase this percentage exponentially. Only then can we truly say that the children of today are the leaders of tomorrow.

Since I've been tutoring I've helped around 50 students individually and have developed different teaching styles to suit different students. I am aware that each person learns material in a different manner so the teaching style must be adapted to suit their individual needs.
