My comments on tutoring Japanese : Studied and worked with the language for four years. Recently returned from studying abroad in Japan for one semester. Proficient in writing and conversation. Majoring in the language at university.

I have worked with a published poet with their drafts, helping fine tune their work. I completed 5 workshops in topics such as fragment writing, long poems & serials, fiction writing, and adapting mythology and fairy tales. I have 12 years total experience working with both languages. I have worked with classmates in both French and Japanese regarding their homework and assignments.

A Little Bit About Me...

After graduating from DePauw University, my first teaching experience was at Rose Elementary Open School, which is a Detroit Public School. I was a building substitute. I worked there for one year until I found a regular postion at a public school academy in Inkster, MI. I was moved around in the system because they hired too many teachers. I found my permenant teaching position at Aisha Shule, an African-centered public school academy, where I have been teaching for at least six years now. I have taught Kindergarten to 5th grade at Aisha Shule, but I have spent the most time teaching in my 2nd-3rd grade split.

From my time with English Club, I found there is very little advantage for either party when the teacher is draconian. Giving the student little rewards, plenty of encouragement, and being patient work much better. I like to try to understand the student on a personal level, so I can make him or her comfortable. Does the student prefer an informal session or to work hard the entire time? Will jokes encourage or distract? Questions like these are key to creating the best learning environment.
