My comments on tutoring Special Education : Masters Special Education

As an Intervention Specialist, I taught in an urban setting for five years. Presently, I enjoy being a substitute teacher in my local school district, Avon Lake City Schools and other districts near Avon Lake. The different teaching experiences I have continued to enhance my ability to relate and understand individuals with a learning differences. The methods of teaching I was instructed when I obtained my Bachelor in Education at the University of Akron Ohio, from 1989-1991, was the following Integrated, Whole language approach and Montessori. The method we were instructed to use in the Akron city school system was Integrated which uses basic and whole language approach language Arts. Upon graduating from Ashland University with my Bachelor's in Early Childhood Education, I began teaching 3rd grade at a charter school in Lorain. I have been teaching for 25 years. I have tutored students in beginning Spanish and reading. I have also taught Sunday School and have been a substitute teacher for 11 years. I have just completed student teaching to become an Intervention Specialist. I intend to be certified this spring.
I vary my teaching style. Some students are content with just reading while others need hands-on and visual experience. I have always been a tutor of sorts. I love to teach kids because of the sparkle they get in their eyes when they finally understand what they are being taught. Each child have a different learning style so I try to work with them to see what works for them. I have worked with kids who have ADD and the gifted.
