A Little Bit About Me...

I began tutoring high school and college students in 1986. I have 6 children of my own who I have raised and taught science and mathematics. I worked 2 years as an adjunct professor at the University of Florida and was a volunteer instructor at Brigham Young University. I speak Japanese fluently and am semi fluent in German.
My style of teaching mathematics, science and Japanese is PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE. It is only through solving problems (for mathematics and science) and practice (for Japanese) that this knowledge becomes ingrained in a student so that they are confident to move forward.

While biology has remained my main passion, I have learned that a good understanding of all subjects is necessary to succeed in academics. A scientist cannot replicate an experiment if they can’t read the papers or understand the statistics used. For this reason, when I teach, I emphasize the practice of multiple skills to achieve understanding in any one subject. I focus on teaching techniques that work well with all types of learners, particularly hands-on activities. It is my belief that learning should be exciting, not a tedious chore. I have taught in many environments under many circumstances. My work as a geometry tutor for a 10th grade enabled me to learn to explore teaching methods that best suited him. As a TA, I reviewed concepts that helped reiterate important biological facts. Because my boss was a Biology Education specialist, she taught us teaching methods like hands-on activities and an inquisitive teaching style that makes concepts stick.
