I have had seven years of experience in working with children of all ages. While attending the University of North Dakota, I was employed at a child care center where I taught children from nine months to five years of age. I completed my student teaching in Sioux Falls and substitute taught in the district from December 2007-May 2008. During my substitute teaching experience, I was given an opportunity to obtain a long-term position in a resource room. I have become very familiar with the differentiated instruction model of teaching students. Each child has an individual way of learning and it is up to the teacher to discover that way and lead or drive instruction with that in mind. I am willing to test and analize each child and see what is best for them as far as learning to read. If a child likes what they are doing they will do it more. I usually am very curious as to why a child hates to read or do math. If I look closely, the answer usually falls real close to the answer of there is a difficulty with understanding it and no one has figured out what that is yet.
