A Little Bit About Me...

I was valedictorian of my high school class. I was also good in sports and music. I went to college at Iowa State University and finished at the University of South Dakota with a major in communication disorders and a minor in psychology. I have a strong training background. I have held jobs in which I was a manager, which required me to train staff. I also taught computer classes (Microsoft, Internet, Basic PC) at Western Iowa Tech for a few years. I earned A's throughout my high school career; and I excelled in college in math, science and English, though I would no longer be comfortable teaching high-level science.

A Little Bit About Me...

I spent a year overseas right out of high school tutoring my cousins. Later, after college, I volunteered to teach Spanish at a "homeschool" in Oregon for 3 months, then spent 6 months teaching Spanish then guitar at Lane Community College. I was assistant teacher for 2 years at a Christian preschool in Kennewick, WA. I have taught private lessons for 4 or 5 years altogether in the various places I have lived, teaching piano, guitar, voice and Spanish. Once I even taught English as a second language for a while. I enjoyed teaching basic music theory and how to play piano by ear to a blind student once. He made me proud at the recital.

I believe every student has their own learning style. As a teacher, I believe it is my responsibility to find the style that works best for the student to help ensure the student not only learns the material but is also able to retain the information. I have more than 5 years experience as a substitute teacher at almost every level. I have had the opportunity to also serve as a long term substitute teacher.
