A Little Bit About Me...

I am a graduate of Ohio University with a bachelor's degree in English. In addition to studying English I also studied fine arts (painting, drawing, art history) and Spanish. I have tutored students from ages 5-18 in all subjects including English (reading and grammar), math, social studies, and science. My reading and grammar skills are helpful in all subjects because I am able to take apart sentences and paragraphs so that it is easier for students to understand. With my English background I am very helpful with reading assignments and book reports. A Little Bit About Me...

Upon graduation from the University of Toledo, I have worked in two different school districts and in almost every grade level. In the Springfield district I was a teacher aid in both first and second grade where I assisted children with learning disabilities. I currently am working with the Bedford school district where I am a literacy coach and I teach students from K-6th grade to because better readers. I also work with these students on their Math skills. In my free time I work at subway and I coach Freshman girls basketball at springfield high school and rec. co-ed soccer.
I believe the key to teaching is finding what each child is interested in and making that connection. Every child is unique and learns best in their own special way. Teachers have the ability to change the world and I feel extremely lucky to be a part of that.

A Little Bit About Me...

As a student I was most drawn to the ideas of Piaget and Gardner. Their teaching philosophies made the most sense to me when it came to teaching. Piaget focused on the idea of play as learning. This may sound strange to some, but a child is always learning, no matter they are doing, due to the fact that so many experiences are totally new to them. When children stacks blocks they are exploring many scientific concepts such as balance, gravity, cause and effect and many others. When children scribble with crayons they are exploring many concepts of art and aesthetics. Gardner describes the idea of multiple intelligences. Everyone is good at some aspects of learning and less so in others. Children learn in many different ways.

In 2007 I had the wonderful opportunity of being one of two teachers at the Ann Arbor Academy's lower school for students with learning disabilities. I have worked as a Teacher's Assistant for three years where I did extensive tutoring with one student over the course of the year. I substitute taught for two years where I learned a great deal about schools, particularly elementary schools and their various curriculum and expectations for grade levels. As well, I was a full time tutor and mentor for students at Pine Ridge Academy for a year while I lived in Burlington. I also teach the second grade religious school class at my temple. I am also a substitute teacher for a day school.
