My last position as a teacher was at William Thomas Academy in Sumter, South Carolina; it involved curriculum development as well as provided results for State regulations. Since my hire in August 2004, I have planned, co written, and implemented curriculum. As a result, 74.6% of my students exceeded the state average for the 2005 SCISA assessment of State Standards; scores in Seventy-five point four percent of my students exceeded the state average for the 2005. In addition, I have also implemented various academic incentive programs for student enrichment. With these programs, students continue to develop pride in their efforts to engage in the learning environment.

I am a well qualified music teacher. My teaching experience has been in the classroom and privately. I earned my BA in music and was trained vocally for six years in sacred and secular styles of music. I also was trained for fourteen years in piano. More recently, I have taught piano and voice privately. I am experienced with the organ and saxaphone as well.
I love working with children and adults of all ages. I have taught preschoolers and adults. I am patient and attend to the student's individual needs. No lesson is the same for any one student. My goal is to teach the subject material and also make the experience enjoyable. Music takes a lot of practice and repetition which brings about the foundation for quality music education.

A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy working with all children and getting to know them individually. As their teacher, I try to guide the students’ learning while focusing on their needs and goals. I am patient and respectful when I present new information to them and as we “work it out” together. I also try to encourage them to become motivated learners by showing appreciation for their efforts and providing plain but empathetic feedback. I recognize that children have different learning styles and may respond best to different approaches. I enjoy sharing my knowledge with others and showing them something new. I feel a sense of reward when a student of mine realizes that they have a new concept. When the lightbulb comes on it is the best feeling in the world. I believe that given the right tools and the right environment all students can learn anything that they put their minds to. I am not a dictator in my teaching style, more of a teammate. I work alongside students guiding them to the next step. I am a fan of I do, we do, you do.
