I am a retired special ed teacher. I worked with Learning Disabled, Emotionally Impaired, Cognitively Impaired, and Austistic students primarily in the high school. I was an Assistant Principal in a middle school for four years, and a teacher consultant for 30 years. In my role as a teacher consultant, I tutored students primarily in the high school. For the past 30 years, I have worked with special needs students. I believe that students learn at their educational level. The problem with education today, is that students are often in classrooms that stress learning at their frustration level. Many students are in general ed settings, but are forced to use materials that they do not fully understand. During my undergraduate studies I tutored at Delta College's Teaching/Learning Center for almost 2 years. While working there I received an award for Tutor of the Year. Delta College being a community college with a wide range of students I have worked with students of all ages and backgrounds. I focused mainly in the areas of Mathematics and Computer Science. Since my job at Delta College I have also tutored privately. I like to approach tutoring on an individual basis. I graduated from my high school with honors. I have been in College since two weeks after graduating high school, where I am slowly pursuing a career in Nursing while working full time at the Dow Chemical Company. For a summer, I was a nanny for two Junior High aged girls, who I did tutor with summer school work. I love working with children and I love helping them learn. I think that everyone should have an equal opportunity to learn, and some people learn differently than others. I try to instill humor and life experiences with my teachings to help the children relate to me or the materials. I love the look of child when the wheels are turning in thier head. My degree in English is from IUPUI, where I participated in the publication of the campus literary magazine and a capstone thesis project. I have one year of Master's work from the University of Indianapolis, but have not earned an MA yet. I write every day and have excellent editing skills, from structural editing to copyediting.
