A Little Bit About Me...

I have a very flexible approach to teaching and am able to adapt to each student's unique learning style. I am familiar with ‘constructivist’ learning and have successfully applied this approach in the classroom with various strategies designed to assist all students in maximizing their learning. I encourage students to actively participate in their own learning, rather than being passive recipients. Students who are disengaged can become engaged when they are in a positive, supportive environment, where their own individual learning style is catered for. Inquiry based learning as opposed to students as passive ‘sponges’, also creates higher levels of student engagement.

I have been involved in teaching of some sort since young adulthood. My formal experience was the 17 years I spent teaching Philosophy at Gonzaga University and North Idaho College. Prior to that, I spent a number of years teaching guitar. I am a published author and Internet radio podcaster, teaching on various topics in philosophy and spirituality. As a traveling lecturer, I have conducted instructional seminars and workshops on spiritual themes all over the country.
I am devoted to the Socratic method. Teaching with leading questions allows my students to formulate within their own minds the connections necessary to grasp the concepts we are addressing.
