I like to be interactive- when I'm teaching I prefer to work through a problem with a student together the first time, letting the student more or less watch me. The second time through, we approach the problem with a little more weight placed on the student. The third time I ask the student to attempt the problem on his/her own, and I'm available for questions.
I have tutored classmates and friends throughout college and after in science and math disciplines. My younger sister struggled in school and I assisted her with all disciplines from grades K-12. I was also a part of the Math Team for four years and the Beta Club for eight years. As a student at Northeast, I earned a A.S. in Industrial Electronics, as well as, a Long Certificate in Electronics. I've been tutoring my brother-n-law in math for the three years while enrolled at the ITT-Technical Institute in Madison, AL. I find that the best way to tutor my students is to find out what they are struggling with the most in a subject and then helping them with the basics in that subject. I work with the student on the basics and then build up to more difficult material. I am patient with students of all ages. I believe that knowing the basics of a subject is always important. In college, I always had to know the basics to build on that knowledge. It can take some time to start at the bottom, but it's worth having the permanent knowledge over learning it short term just to pass the test.
