I am a retired District Manager for Verizon. I taught High School Math for three years, then tutored high school math for four. I have recently "retired" my state certification (NH) for Secondary Education in Mathematics. I am currently an Adjunct Math Instructor at Hesser College, a division of Kaplan.
My teaching style is informal , taking the students from "where they are" to "where they should be". I have had good results tutoring and teaching students from the Middle-School through the Adult levels. My greatest satisfaction comes when math-challenged students finally "see the light".

I have been a physics and mathematics tutor for my fellow students at the University of Waterloo, in Waterloo, Ontario. Also, I served as a physics T.A. at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute before I transferred to Waterloo. Finally, I was a substitute teacher for two years at Belmont Middle School and Belmont High School, in Belmont, New Hampshire.
My teaching style is simple but effective. With mathematics and physics, the student retains an idea, with the added benefit of a solid intuition if he or she is fortunate enough to work through a problem using his or her's own insights. Guiding the student with the systematic offering of penetrating questions seems to be one of the most powerful methods to aid in the understanding of mathematical and physical phenomena.

A Little Bit About Me...

For the last three years I instructed K-12 students in environmental science and outdoor recreation programs, as the executive director of a nonprofit educational partnership. This involved designing and presenting lessons in collaboration with public school teachers. I received a Commissioner's Award from the Maine Department of Education in 2007 for my work with at-risk students. I also serve as the part-time Service Learning Coordinator for a local school district.
