My preferred teaching style is discussion with leadership. When the student can relate to the information through own experience or peer experience the information is better absorbed. In a classroom situation a certain amount of lecture is also needed to stimulate the conversation and present the subject materials. As a tutor it would be more a discussion and personal discovery that isn't as easy with a large class.
I hold a wide variety of experience in both education and industry. I earned degrees in Broadcasting and Speech/Communications. With these, I worked in public relations, advertising, community college teaching and broadcasting. I was a teacher of Speech/Communications at McCook Community College in McCook Nebraska where I taught Speech and Broadcasting. Laid back, but encouraging.If a child is struggling, I don't think you should add fear and criticism to the situation. Having had Catholic nuns in all my grammer school days, pretty much put the "fear of God" into me, until I went on to public high school and college. then I was able to relax and embrace english and literature.
My BA degree was in Speech & Theatre. Who would have known that a shy kid like me would have excelled in public speaking, english, and theatre. I love the English language, even though I've had classes in French and Spanish. I started school when I was 4 years old (too early), and all my grade school years was challanged with education. Now that I am an adult, I feel that I have the experience to help children understand and find it easier to learn English and grammer, sentence writing, composition writing, essays, etc.

My degree in English at Rhodes meant that I studied a wide variety of literature, taking both analytical courses and courses that encouraged me to take what I learned from these writers and apply it to my own writing, further developing my skills as a writer, both creatively and as an analytical thinker. This culminated in my senior year, when I studied literary theory and criticism in my senior seminar, and when I was approved to write a manuscript for my senior writing project, for which I received an A, as well as an academic award: the Allen B. Tate Award for Achievement in Writing, Fiction. In high school, my project for National Honors Society was tutoring at a local elementary school and througout college, I volunteered to tutor with various programs.
