My comments on tutoring Study Skills : As an Educator in the school system, I teach my students how to properly study to gain the best results from their subject matter.

In college, I strived to do my very best. Like many others I had to write papers on different topics and grammar and comprehension plays a big part in writing a good paper. So, I took the opportunity while I was earning my degree, not to just get the degree, but to make sure I was doing the best I could so I could teach others what I had learned. I earned a BS in Human Services and I am currently working on a Masters degree. I conduct a reading group during the school year everyday for 1-8 students a day.
As a Paraprofessional-Educator, I enjoy working with children in the areas of reading. They come to me struggling and in need of more assistance that I feel I can provide. I use all methods of second language acquisition in my teaching. Most of the exercises I use to help beginning are communicative methods. It's better to get them speaking and writing and build their confidence than to just use rote memorization or drills. If I think the audio-lingual method will help a more advanced student, I suggest and practice this method with them. If reading in the language with the translation side by side helps, we will practice that. I bear all forms of cognitive learning in mind when tutoring a student. I believe that patience is key to a child's learning experience. When I was in school, I had teachers that were mostly concerned with tearing through the curriculum. Many times there were some left behind in the process who did not firmly grasp the concepts being taught.
