I believe the best way for someone to learn something is through application and repetition. As both a tutor and youth lacrosse coach I have had success by teaching my students how to approach problems rather than simply giving them answers. I am extremely patient and am very willing to take alternative approaches in helping a student learn.

A Little Bit About Me...

I would best describe my method of teaching as a give and take experience. Through diologue, I am able to lead the student through the thought process that will derive the correct answer. Giving bits of information can provoke a new approach to the task at hand. I also feel it is important to individualize each person being tutored, as everyone learns differently. Some learn best through the use of things such as pnuemonic devices, while others may need repitition to effectivily remember the material. Gaining knowledge is a passion of mine and sharing this information is something I truly enjoy.
My journey through the undergraduate sciences has given me the skills needed to be an effective tutor. I understand first hand that not everyone learns the same way. I was labeled as “not too bright” as a child. The issue wasn’t my intelligence, it was my learning style. When I am working with someone on a new task/lesson, I try to find out what their learning style is, and then adapt my teaching style to it.

Following my graduation from the University of Connecticut I pursued a career in the insurance industry but have also spent time working as a youth group leader and worked as a part-time tutor for several years. While living in Connecticut I tutored homebound high school age children who were either out on medical leave or expelled for disciplinary purposes. I am proud to report that in addition to several other students, I provided tutoring for a full course load covering an entire year for one expelled student who improved grades in every course and went on to graduate.
