Every student is different. They all have different experiences and learning styles. Sometimes teachers can just try to explain concepts and ideas the way that they understand things. I like to first ask students questions to help me understand where they are, what they specifically do and do not understand. This helps me to figure out how to help the student. Also in my experience, teachers teach only one method of solving a specific problem and that way may not be easy for that student. I like to explain many methods so the student can choose the method he or she understands. Every student can achieve academic success. They just need someone who understands how they learn in order push them forward and give them the confidence they need.

Having two wonderful elementary teachers, I was inspired to become a teacher. I graduated in 1988 with an Elementary Education degree. I began my career as a teacher's aide but soon decided to be a stay-at-home mom to my two children. In 1994, I began to home teach my three children. I graduated my youngest in 2008. In 2004, I substitute taught for two local school districts. In spring 2008 I renewed my teaching license. I received my first teaching job at a Christian school in Indianapolis where I taught first grade. The school downsized so I resigned allowing the tenured teachers to keep their jobs. I enjoy tutoring, because I find that helping students learn, and perhaps come to appreciate something they find difficult, is a learning process for me as well. It is very rewarding to watch someone learn and understand something and to watch them become more independent in their studying. Also, I believe a tutor should be a good listener, so that they can better understand what each individual student needs.
