I am a driven life-long learner who achieves high levels of success in life. I focus on excellence in all I do. I have a well-rounded education. My experience has led me to expertise in teaching math, psychology, English and history. I have worked with students from Kindergarten to adult age. At the high school level, preparation for transition to college, training or work has been an additional area that I have provided expertise.
Having worked with young children through college students and adults, I can teach a variety of ages and make the material applicable to the student's skill-level. I think Math is the most beautiful subject and the highest form of human expression. A lot of times people are turned away from it due to a high school math experience that they perceive as dry and boring. When I tell people I love math, I too often hear "well, better you than me!" I think part of the high school math experience should include turning students on to mathematical discovery. Confronting confusion and working through to develop an understanding that feels personal and thorough. I believe that everyone must learn in an individual way at their own pace and I am prepared to put in the necessary effort to give my students that opportunity. It is widely acknowledged that students learn in a variety of ways. In a tutoring environment, I believe in discovering each student’s optimal learning strategy, as well as identifying techniques for making other styles of teaching accessible. I aim to enable further education, as well as transmit more urgently needed information.
In the process of earning my BA in History (minor in Archaeology), I became familiar with a broad range of historical subjects. My certificate in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) gave me a familiarity with mathematics and statistics, as well as conventions of scientific research and reporting. My MA required a publication-ready thesis, which would not have been possible without organization and self-motivation.

I am a certified teacher in the area of middle school social studies. I am now also qualified for high school certification. I have been working as a long-term substitute in Burlington area schools in social studies for the last 5 years. I have also been working as a paraeducator in special education. I have worked in all subjects. I have a high interest in math, and successfully advanced to, and passed, Calculus two in college.
