A Little Bit About Me...

The most important element of teaching is to realize one is teaching a person. In a tutoring situation, it is especially important to discover exactly how to present material to the student. As a teacher, I seek to understand the student and then present the material using terms and examples the student can understand. Finally, I literally believe the only “stupid question” is one the learner doesn’t ask.
I hold a Bachelor and a Master of Science degree in Science Education. I was certified in the State of Louisiana to teach Chemistry, Biology, General Science, and Computer Literacy. In the past five years I have had experience teaching music to children from ages five through high school. During this time I have had many different students with different needs. I have always tried to teach my students to have a strong work ethic, and to be independent learners. I like to use positive reinforcement, and I like to motivate children by having them listen to music that inspires them. Music is a fun activity, but just like any subject in school, it take just as much discipline and hard work to get anything out of it.
During my musical career, I have had multiple professional experiences as a teacher and performer. This summer will be my fourth summer teaching at the New York Summer Music Festival, in Oneonta, New York. For this festival I am responsible for organizing and coaching chamber groups, teaching private lessons, giving reed classes and master classe ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

As a recent graduate at the University of Missouri with degrees in International Studies and Spanish, I have obtained the indispensable ability to speak Spanish fluently. In addition to this skill, I have a TEFL certificate, which has involved me going to an adult literacy center for English, where I teach my own native language. I have experience in tutoring children in Spanish, and tutored a young girl, Kristine, in Spanish as a beginning speaker. Tutoring someone in Spanish is not only very fun but also more accessible. Because I have already learned Spanish as an English speaker, I know how to teach someone in a similar position.
I think that everyone has a propensity to learn a language and each student needs someone very patient to go down the path of language learning with them. A student learning a foreign language must speak the language a lot, so I will place an important ... read more
