I began drawing when I was about 4 years old and have never stopped. Majoring in art in high school and in college I've worked as an artist and an art director for the past 25 years or so.. I was recently certified as a teaching artist. My main area of expertise is in illustration, especially in drawing people. I am an artist, teacher, writer, and designer. I have been creating art since the age of 5 years old. I received a scholarship from Memphis College of Art for my portfolio and artistic ability. I have been teaching art to inner-city youth for 6 years, teaching elementary and high school aged students. I have also spent the last 2 months giving private art lessons to a child at my church. As a freelance writer, I feel it is important that children write well. I strive hard in my classes to help children use their imagination and creativity in writing. My other areas of concentration are reading, spelling, grammar, and language arts, During the last 7 years, I have worked as a substitute teacher for Memphis City and Shelby County schools, in grades PreK-6th grades.

A Little Bit About Me...

I feel that I can relate to children because I am also a child at heart. I believe in constant verbal quizzing and repitition as a means to develop the child's ability to retain knowledge and call it forth at will. I have learned from past work experiences that all people learn differently be it either visual, kinetic (hands-on), or verbal (by listening). By learning the child's learning type you can tell which method appeals to them and can create a learning environment to encourage their growth at a faster rate. I also have a history in the theatrical arts and vocal music performance which can assist in grasping the child's attention during those times of relaxed focus. Lastly, I feel that positive encouragment is key to building confidence and trust in those students with lowered self esteem.

A Little Bit About Me...

Determining the learning styles of individual students is important to me. I adjust and accomodate my approach based on how students respond and learn. Changing my methods and being creative help me reach students on many levels. I enjoy building on past knowledge, kinesthetic activities, and appealing to students interests.
