While I have not had any students with Dyslexia, I have recently read The Gift of Dyslexia and feel I have an understanding of what students experience. I am willing to work on strategies to help the student at home and in school. I like to see where the student is and meet him there. Look at what needs to be taught and discover the best way to impart that learning to the individual child. I have taught K for 13 years. I understand the value of one on one time, and that students are all different. Recently I spent 10 months teaching missionary children in Uganda. There I taught 4th, 5th, and 7th graders. Students in my class have had vision issues, autism, aspergers, and ADD/ADHD. With each situation, I have evaluated where the student was and revamped how I was teaching to meet their needs.

I chose teaching as a career because I love working with children and making a difference in their lives. Based on previous experience I have discovered that the same teaching style does not work for every child. I find that explaining each topic and asking the child question gives a clear indication of their understanding. Based on responses to the questions adjustments may be made to address each child's need. As the daughter of educators, I have been exposed to the education system all my life. As a result of this exposure, I became very interested in tutoring and teaching. I taught for two years as a substitute teacher before attending law school. I previously worked as a substitute teacher with Morrow Elementary in North Lauderdale, Florida where I taught test-taking strategies for the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test. As a graduate from Peabody College, I have had terrific hands-on experience from a first-rate institution. As an English major at the University of Florida, I found a love for language learning and language acquisition; as a result, I declared Linguistics and TESL as additional majors. In these majors, I became quit ept at understanding grammatical principles and language learning theory. I began volunteering my knowledge to foreign language learners and found that I loved helping others learn.
