My initial approach is to ascertain exactly where the student stands prior to starting any course work. Students can be and are easily frustrated with work that is either beyond their ability or more advanced. Frustration can be either eliminated or reduced when students have a better understanding of their work. When teaching Math, my experiences have also taught me that younger students are very hands on and tend to absorb concepts quicker when they are able to manipulate objects enabling them to better understand the concrete. I would say that my teaching style is very interactive. Anyone can give instructions but I love feedback from a one on one situation as well as a group environment. I base alot of my instruction on analogies; when a person can relate an experience or another word to a term being tought, their understanding is broadened and 99% of the time embedded in the longterm memory. In 2002 I went back to school to earn my bachelor's degree so I could continue on with my Masters. Two years later I graduated with my Master's of Education in Counseling. A situation came into play at the school and I was asked to "fill-in" for a 7th grade Language Art Teacher. She never returned and I taught the classes from October until the end of the school year.
