During my senior year in high school, I tutored and mentored at a program named AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination). This program is designed to prepare students for college. My job was to help students with any subject they were having trouble with. Math was the most common subject that students needed help with the most. In high school I took geometry, algebra, and math analysis. Statistics is my highest level of college math. I believe that with my experience and knowledge in math I can be a successful math tutor. I sit with students and ask them what they are having trouble with. I will then explain to them and make it as clear as possible so they can understand better the subject they are having trouble with. I have worked with students of all grade levels from volunteering at the Cocopah Head Start preschool to working with high school students as a substitute teacher. I have an English as a Second Language endorsement and have worked with adults in improving the English level. I excell in creative writing and am currently assisting friends in obtaining their GED. I believe in Howard Garner's theory of teaching to the student style of learning. They are as follows: Visual, Auditory, Musical, Kinesthetic, Interpersonal and Intrapersonal. With three children my oldest 16, my middle child is ten and the baby is 3 I have had the opportunity to help them learn and grow through school.I also sit in class with my fifth grader and help out because of shortage of aides.
