During and after earning my degree, I spent almost nine years working in healthcare as a medical assistant, teaching patients in a one on one environment. Most recently I was an Environmental Health and Safety Supervisor. I have given training presentations to groups from as small as three to as large as sixty. During this school year, I have worked as a substitute teacher for Calvary Christian Academy.I was involved in 4-H for 9 years. Through that opportunity I was instilled with a passion for community service. I like to create imagination, yet keep children focused on and on task. I have recently attained a Bachelor's Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from Mississippi State University. The reason I chose this degree was that it gave me an opportunity to learn all aspects of a human being. My first concentration was science. This gave me an understanding on how the body is developed. The next concentration was social work. This would help me gain knowledge on how to deal with families, and education, so I could teach.

Upon graduation from college, I taught 7th grade English for two years, then Gifted & Talented grades 4-6. I left the field of teaching for marriage and babies. My husband was in the military, so we moved quite often. I homeschooled our two children for most of their elementary years. After that I taught 7th grade Algebra at a private school. I have tutored adults and children off and on over the years in various subjects, from reading to anatomy and math. I believe the most important skill we can impart to children is a love for learning, and a curiosity about life. That, with a firm foundation in reading and math, will take them anywhere they want to go. I do utilize more of a socratic rather than a didactic approach, and endeavor to involve the learner in discovery as much as possible.
