Sculpting is a great medium in that it can be done in so many different ways: clay, paper-mache, found objects, recycled materials, wood. I have done several of my own sculptures in college and out, and teach children different sculpting projects throughout the year. I go as fast or as slow as the student needs. As an early childhood teacher, I have had several opportunities to help children (school age), to do homework. I also was a tutor in high school to a boy for just Algebra, which then turned around to being all of his subjects and helping him keep on track. The hardest thing for me was that he had only lived in the U.S. for four years, and had trouble speaking English. After each session of tutoring, I would grab the Scrabble board, which encouraged him to use more words, learn new words, and have fun while doing so.
