First off I approach learning with a degree of understanding for the student, I have found not all students learn at the same pace and have the same strengths and weakness. A Little Bit About Me...

I follow Gardner's Theory of Learning Styles, students do not learn in the same way, as a tutor you must look for the approach that is right for the student. Also, working with at risk students, who have experienced failure in traditonal school settings, an educator must work on the negative beliefs of the student, including that the student sees themselves as "dumb" and " not able to learn." One or 2 point increase on a TABE test, needs to be recognized. A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style varies with audience. I believe that most students need to first understand what a question is asking, (we all assume what is being asked yet never give it a great deal of thought) then proceed to elaborate on the wrong answer. Study technique is to me a critical element in learning. This usually means SQ3R. I am not a talking head but rather an instigator of thought. I do believe that all children have the ability to learn the subjects however not all children are in the right mind to do so. My goal is to show in real world, understandable terms the subjects we will work on. I believe that if a child is explained the rules in terms and words he/she understands, then he/she will grasp the material and carry it with them into the future rather than trying to cram for an exam with no retention.
I graduated from UNF in 1993 with a Bachelor's of Business Administration in the field of Management. The degree required classes in Accounting, Finance, Algebra and Economics. Mathematics has risen to be one of my preferred subjects, tutoring this subject for a year to date.
