I have been an educator for almost 20 years. I began my teaching career as a substitute teacher and immediately fell in love with teaching children with special needs. Desiring to continue to teach, I finished a Master's degree which gave me the endorsements to teach K-12 children with special needs. Since then, I have taught reading and mathematics to both children with special needs and regular education children at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. As I gained a greater thirst to do more to help children, outside of teaching in the public school setting, I bagan tutoring. Between teacing within the public school and tutoring outside of the public school setting, I gained a great deal of experience when it comes to identifying strategies that cause children to learn and retain what they have learned. A Little Bit About Me...

My focus in tutoring is on the student. I adapt myself to the learning styles of the student(s), building on their skills and talents. I recognize that some students retain information best by teaching to others what they learn immediately. So I avail them of that opportunity by encouraging them to actively be involved in making up notes, choosing homework questions and rephrasing content based on their understanding. To me, each tutoring session is about embracing my personal responsibility of helping a student take significant progressive steps toward his/her academic goals.
I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Marymount University. My cumulative GPA is 3.91/4.0, science and Math GPA 3.93/4.0. GED is one of my top subjects!

When teaching, I take the time to learn my students' personalities and strengths. Then, I tailor a strength-based approach to teaching my students new concepts and ideas. I usually incorporate a mixture of traditional and non-traditional teaching techniques in my lesson plans. I provide structured opportunities and supports for my students to apply what they have learned. I also challenge my students to take ownership of their own learning process by incorporating leadership development and civic engagement activities into my lesson plans.
I help others become their best selves. I enjoy teaching and tutoring youth and adults. Over the years, I have had opportunities to not only mentor and tutor youth, but to teach and tutor adults, as well. I have experience teaching and tutoring the following subjects: (1) Language Arts/Reading; (2) Language Arts/Writing; (3) Social Studies; ... read more

Math Tutor! Geometry, Algebra, Trigonometry!

My tutoring style is explaining the concept in the simplest possible terms and then practicing a few problems with the student. Then when I see the client has grasped the concept, I move on. I do not believe in rushing the student because I know how frustrating it is when one does not understand something.
I have tutored algebra 1 and 2, college algebra, intermediate algebra, pre-calculus, and geometry. My best subject is mathematics. On the SAT math section, I scored a 700 with the highest score being 800. When I was a freshman high school, I tutored students older than myself in subjects such as Algebra 1 & 2, Geometry. While still in high school, I took College Algebra at Broward College. I got the highest grade in that class -- an A.

More About This Tutor...

As you can tell, from all of my degrees, I value education. It is a passion of mine to help explain complex subject matter to students that don't find the subject matter easy. I have found that strong students are very easy to teach. If you give them a problem, they will just work at it until they learn it. Weaker students aren't always weak, sometimes, they may just be different kinds of learners. I think everyone deserves to have access to quality education because a more educated society is a more productive society.
As a non-traditional student, I was able to gain a unique educational experience. I started off earning multiple degrees at a community college, then transferred to Temple to study Actuarial Science. The training I received while preparing for actuarial exams taught me how to think about and solve problems so thoroughly that I was able to teach any subject I learned ... read more
