Tessa S - Divide, CO 80814 (30.9 mi) - World History Tutor - $54.00/hr.
I have helped children prepare for preschool through games and activities, and community college students brainstorm ideas for transfer essays. I am very organized, responsible and trustworthy. I have worked at a Montessori preschool and am comfortable using hands-on, creative methods for learning. Each student is different and learning approaches need to reflect that. I have worked with sensory-sensitive preschoolers, mentally challenged high school students, and ESL students ranging in age from 3 to 40. Whether they needed to learn how to tie their shoes, write an essay, the parts of an atom, how to use a conjunction, why the slope of a line is important, or how to write their name, I was there to help. I worked at Moorpark College as an ESL and Writing Tutor, helping students discover ways to identify and clarify ideas, refine a topic, outline ideas, and develop the skills needed to w

Frank D - Littleton, CO 80127 (51.2 mi) - World History Tutor - $40.00/hr.
I have taught and tutored both children and adults in a wide variety of situations, from job training and test preparation to tutoring for a specific subject. I have taught ESL classes and done individual tutoring, as well as both group and one-on-one instruction in grammar and composition. I have tutored for SAT, ACT, TOEFL, TOEIC, ISEE and entrance exams. I have created my own materials for such tutoring but also use books available commercially. I am interactive and student-centered. I see where the student's strengths lie and build from there. We do homework and tests together, and I move from a coaching role to an observational one, only coaching occasionally as necessary. We work not only on the subject matter, but techniques which improve comprehension, retention, organization and motivation.

Dawn K - Littleton, CO 80123 (56.1 mi) - World History Tutor - $41.50/hr.
It is my belief that all children can learn, even those with disabilities, if the proper techniques are applied and if the students are inspired by their teachers. I find it useful to set reasonable goals and expect students to achieve them. However, flexibility is always called for when dealing with children as their egos can be fragile and we, as teachers, are entrusted to protect those egos.
Learning is a privilege and children need to recognize it as such. Equally important, teaching is an opportunity to learn from one’s students. As in all social situations, the learning process requires reciprocity.
Finally, learning requires a commitment to discipline. Small achievements add up to become large achievements if the student believes in himself or herself. It is my responsibility as a tutor to show my students how to dream big but to reach their goals through small steps
