What I have garnered from directing theatre is that everyone learns at their own pace, and I utilize that when I teach and coach as well. What I aim to do is create a trusting atmosphere, and employ a positive and nurturing demeanor. I also stress the importance of being focused and prepared, not just with specific subject matter, but in all phases of life, too. A positive outlook can have a major impact on the ability to learn and retain information, and I encourage and project this.
I have extensive teaching experience, not only in the classroom, but I have been a theatre director for twenty years, as well as a soccer coach. I firmly believe that a good education must be adaptable, flexible, and incorporate a variety of learning styles if it is to be of maximum benefit to students. When teaching, I speak with my students about the kinds of activities they feel assist them most in retaining information as well as observing their learning style independently. I do my best to include activities that incorporate visual, kinesthetic, and oral learners. School isn’t always fun and interesting; it is called “work” for a reason. However, if I can’t make it fun I can at least make it engaging and that is what I strive for. A Little Bit About Me...

I believe students will rise to the level of expectations set for them. I am a bit of a comedian, and I use humor to allay frustration in learning situations. I believe in setting goals and charting a specific path for reaching them, while being flexible enough to alter the path along the way. Praise and positive reinforcement are powerful tools when teaching challenging material, and I use them frequently.
I received a BA in General Business from WSU, and was honored as a Cum Laude graduate. The courses were varied and included a wide array of math application, from supply and demand curves to interest rate calculations. My classmates gave me the nickname "Webster" because I was frequently asked to edit their papers and to tutor them in several different subjects. I love working with teenagers, and watching their faces change when they really GET a concept for the first time!
