What I have garnered from directing theatre is that everyone learns at their own pace, and I utilize that when I teach and coach as well. What I aim to do is create a trusting atmosphere, and employ a positive and nurturing demeanor. I firmly believe that a good education must be adaptable, flexible, and incorporate a variety of learning styles if it is to be of maximum benefit to students. When teaching, I speak with my students about the kinds of activities they feel assist them most in retaining information as well as observing their learning style independently. I do my best to include activities that incorporate visual, kinesthetic, and oral learners. School isn’t always fun and interesting; it is called “work” for a reason. I believe students will rise to the level of expectations set for them. I am a bit of a comedian, and I use humor to allay frustration in learning situations. I believe in setting goals and charting a specific path for reaching them, while being flexible enough to alter the path along the way. Praise and positive reinforcement are powerful tools when teaching challenging material, and I use them frequently.
I received a BA in General Business from WSU, and was honored as a Cum Laude graduate. The courses were varied and included a wide array of math application, from supply and demand curves to interest rate calculations. My classmates gave me the nickname "Webster" because I was frequently asked to edit their papers and to tutor them in several different subjects. I love working with teenagers, and watching their faces change when they really GET a concept for the first time!

A Little Bit About Me...

Teaching and tutoring are my passion. To see the light in student's eyes when they gain new understanding and/or work through a problem. I believe the best way to accomplish that is to not only teach them the information, but more importantly to show them how to do it themselves, so that learning becomes a lifetime occupation. Through patience and frequent encouragement, I believe everyone can learn.
As a graduate of a Liberal Arts university in Virginia, I excelled in English, History, Law, and Foreign Languages. Writing thoroughly-researched and articulate essays were my speciality. For three years I tutored Spanish to struggling university students, and a further year was spent teaching English as a foreign language to Taiwanese students of all ages.
