My comments on tutoring Percussion : I have taken 1 and am now currently taking a second College methods course in Percussion and was taught how to play (with proper technique) and taught how to teach the basics.

I have played Trumpet for 9 years, Clarinet for 3, and have taken numerous college methods courses that teach me how to play and teach many other instruments. I am a music education major at Towson University, but I live near Salisbury, MD, and love to help and tutor children in this field during the summer. I do not yet have a degree, but am looking for paid teaching experience to put on my resume.

I believe that all students want to learn and feel successful. I also believe that all students can learn so long as the materials are available to them in a form that is most compatible with their individual learning styles. My most important charge, along with helping those I tutor to "get" the materials, is to help them analyze their own styles of learning, identify what is successful for them and what is not, and help them create new strategies which might meet with more consistent success, both short and long term. In my experience with teaching, I find that the best way to connect and convey the information is to provide aural, visual and experiential exposure to the material. Everyone does not learn at the same pace or through the same exposure to material. It is also important to be perceptive to the possibility of student frustration as this is almost always a road block that will arise and if not identified can lead to lower absorption of the material or complete lack of understanding and drive altogether.
