Tutoring is not just about improving grades, although that is the most obvious result. It is about allowing the student to feel the pride of success, and learn how to transfer newly learned skills in one subject to other unrelated subjects. I truly believe that every student can be successful. Sometimes the pathway to success is not always visible to the student; a competent teacher can point the way. It is extremely rewarding as an educator to open up that pathway to the student, especially so in the sciences. I love teaching all grades and levels. The most important aspect of teaching is to know your student. Each individual learns in different ways, some are tactile learners, some are visual, and some are auditory learners. Incorporating all aspects into my teaching style assists the retention of the material. It also has to be relatable to the student, so we have to use relevant examples that they understand. All children can learn any subject if you can spark their interest. There is no better feeling than seeing the light turn on and the sense of accomplishment in a child's eyes.

I received my BS in Biology from UNCW and for the last 15 years I have been an Environmental Chemist. Now, I am pursuing my true calling as an educator. It was a regular part of my job to teach and train new grad students and employees and also to do community outreach. In the latter role, I was guest lecturer on three occasions at Brunswick Community College and taught fourth graders about pet waste and storm water runoff during the "Scoop Your Poop on the Loop" campaign.

As a young child I was diagnosed with dyslexia. I have worked hard to to get my degree and have overcome many challenges. I achieved the Eagle Scout Award in the Boy Scouts of America program and was selected by American Legion Post to attend North Carolina Tarheel’s Boy’s State in the summer of 2000. I graduated from the University of North Carolina Wilmington in 2007 with a bachelors of Science degree in Chemistry. My degree required supplementation with Math and Biology, taking such classes as calculus I&II, multivariative calculus, matrices, human/animal anatomy and physiology.
