A Little Bit About Me...

I have loved teaching and still keep in touch with many of my former students. In fact, I have taught many of their children! I seem to end up helping students with more than just their homework. I have always had a talent for understanding that not everyone "gets it the first time." I had much trouble with science myself. When I was responsible for hiring teachers, I usually wasn't a fan of those with 4.0 averages. I was afraid they wouldn't have the patience to answer the same question 10 times! I always try many methods (visual, auditory, tactile) until we find the right one for my students. I consider it my personal challenge to be able to get that "aha" out of a young person.

As a graduate student, I worked as an Academic Adviser for student-athletes at The University of Akron. I have worked tutoring at-risk students in a cooperative environment. My duties included supervising and leading study sessions, helping students plan and organize time effectively, as well as implementing study and test taking strategies.
I like working with young people to challenge them to accomplish something they did not think was possible. I prefer to ask them questions and see what they can come up with. From there, I use my experiences and expertise to guide them through the learning process.
