A Little Bit About Me...

I have had a love for the Italian language since I was 10 years old. I bought myself an Italian-English dictionary and began learning the language. In high school, I completed 4 years of Italian classes. Three of those years I was in honors classes, along with being the Italian tutor for all levels. I was chosen to be in the Italian Honors Society in my senior year. Also in that year (2008), I was awarded the medal for the Most Outstanding Italian Student, which is given to the senior with the highest GPA over four years of Italian classes. At Illinois Wesleyan University, I completed two more years of Italian study, finishing with Italian 300, the highest level offered by the University. During those two years, I was also the only Italian tutor for all levels at the University. Along with general tutoring for the subject, I helped grade assignments and conducted study groups for the ... read more

Italian is one of my top subjects! I have been studying the Italian language and culture since 2009 and have been living in Italy since 2012. My teaching experience includes two years of high school language courses in Italy and also the tutoring of children ages 6-11.

After graduating with a degree in Theatre, I turned my abilities towards mastering the spoken Italian language. I have studied Italian at DePaul University in Chicago, Lorenzo De Medici in Florence and Middlebury College in Vermont, where I am currently earning my masters over four summers. I also have two years of real world experience, as I have been living in the small town of Mantua, Italy since 2012. My life is not complete without the Italian language. While reading Italian text is an important way to reinforce vocabulary and sentence structure, my passion rests with speaking the language.
My teaching style is more non traditional. I use many games that come from my theatrical background. Many of the games require students to be on their feet. I make learning Italian a physical process, not just a mental one. I focus on the importance of the pronunciation of words. I ... read more

My comments on tutoring Italian : I returned from Palermo, Sicily in late December, 2014. I had been there working and living since June, teaching English to Italian children and adults. I have been going to Italy since 2010 annually and absolutely adore all things Italian. Speaking Italian is like eating cake with every word.

I have always had a strong passion for languages and perhaps because of this have done extensive traveling. I have lived in several countries and speak several languages. In my adventures I have found time and again that the easiest, most effortless and fastest way to learn a language is to immerse oneself in that culture. Why? Because it is not enough to remember that "arrivederci" translates to "goodbye." Rather, to really know the inside of a language one must also know and understand its people and the culture it comes from.
I truly believe conversation is the best way to learn a new language. There are many people who study grammer and vocabulary on paper for years, but when they are finally put in a real situation in which they are required to speak the language, all of their training fails them because they never did the most basic and important thing, which is to practice m ... read more

More About This Tutor...

My favorite teaching experiences have been tutoring students one on one-it is truly remarkable to see the improvement students can make when they are able to work at their own pace and with individualized attention. I am committed to helping children attain their goals through showing them how much I believe in their success. Through providing individualized attention, I enjoy adapting to how students best learn-whether it be through shorter, more frequent sessions, helping students to develop study strategies, or working with students to increase interest in a subject. I am very patient, compassionate, and flexible-I am committed to working with students to help them reach their goals. I also understand that parent and teacher communication can be essential to help a student reach these goals-and certainly would strive to maintain a relationship with a student's teachers to have an ... read more

I have taught university-level art history courses for the last 7 years. These courses include training in writing, presentation, and speaking in addition to their emphasis on the history of culture. As an assistant professor, my role also includes my own research so I have extensive experience writing research papers and articles. I am very adept at grammar and spelling. Because of my educational background, my strongest subjects are history and english. Furthermore, I am constantly learning through reading and traveling.
I have mostly taught university-level students but I have occasionally worked with high school students. I would like the opportunity to work with all age groups. In my opinion, students learn in many different ways so it is useful to approach difficult concepts in practical ways. I like to use visual media when teaching (films, excerpts from relevant pro ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I speak multiple languages and have over 25 years of experience teaching French, English, Spanish, Italian, Mandarin Chinese, Hindi and Punjabi in my own language school as well as in academic and corporate environments. My passion and my specialty is guiding students to fluency and competence in languages. I myself continue to learn new languages and culture for personal emjoyment. My degrees are a BA in ethnomusicvology from UCLA and an MA in French from Arizona State.
My tutoring style is informal. It is based on establishing good rapport, understanding my student's learning style and making the sessions as enjoyable and productive as possible.
