I taught H.S. chemistry I & II in the Indianapolis area from 2001-2005. Entering college at Western Michigan U, I had plans on becoming a teacher, but went into the analytical research laboratory. I decided to go back and get my teaching license because I have a passion for education. I believe that the learning experience is wonderful and chemistry/science excites me. Sometimes I reflect back and consider how everything I see, touch, and smell is made from the elements on the periodic table. How can that be?

A Little Bit About Me...

I've always had a passion to teach. Life took me down a few different paths but I've managed to find my way back to teaching. I'm looking to pursue a Masters in order to obtain a position in the fields of teaching CAD. I enjoy teaching others because I think I have a unique connection with the way some people think. I have dyslexia, but I managed to get a 3.9 in High School, a 2.98 at Michigan Tech and currently hold a 3.85 at KVCC. I am a right brained person that can see things in different ways or am able to relate them to something else in life to get the understanding to grasp the concept that is trying to be taught/learned.

A Little Bit About Me...

I recalled my difficulties in learning difficult subjects, my difficulties are not universal but I draw from them in finding what is blocking the student from grasping certain concepts. I recall teaching my children at a very early age the concept of ratios. I used windows, tiles from the kitchen, a pizza pie etc. This, before going to pencil and paper and it worked. Till this day they know fractions inside and out because they understood the concept in real life. This is typically my approach, then we can go and do problems in the abstract on paper.
I have a very broad experience in the fields of chemistry and physics. This was attained during my work experience within the Pharmaceutical industry. As a trainer of people I prefer a question based style to teaching. I believe that the key to success is to assess a person's ability, their current understanding, and develop a system which maximizes their potential. Setting expectations up front and adapting to personal learning styles aid in facilitating learning.
