My teaching style is very student friendly. I engage the student in working out easy examples, which provide an illustration of fundamentals. Part of my process is to "walk through" an example with the student, showing them a process to solve a given problem. I then assign a problem for them to work out. This resembles a test-like environment where the student can figure out what he/she does not understand.

I went to public schools in East Detroit, Michigan. In eighth grade I set a personal goal to attend the University of Michigan. I never had private tutors. My strongest subject is math. Mr Learmont, my junior high school history teacher would frequently say, "Take care of these books and these books will take care of you." It was that inspiration that raised me to love learning and in turn teaching others.
Thomas Edison said, "Genius is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration. I am extremely persistant. Whatever it takes to get someone to understand a concept I will strive to discover it. Most of all the process of learning should be kept exciting so that the pupil is left yearning for the next lesson.

I enjoy teaching and I find it interesting to see how each one of us may need different way of explanation to understand the same problem. I feel that over time, we all tend to develop our own way of solving problems, which is really an indication that we are ready to solve the problems on our own. So when I start teaching someone, my first step is to help them develop an understanding of the problem, as a major part of solving a problem lies in a good understanding of it. Once students have a good understanding of a problem, the solution becomes much simpler.
I was an A-grade student in my undergrad, which were only the top ten percent of the batch, working on my bachelors and masters at the same time. My style has always been to encourage questions from the student or with the many people who have worked for me over the years to challenge the status quo. I encourage individuals to stretch the envelope and to seek different solutions rather than accept what has been done before. I have also stressed that there is never a bad question or wrong to think outside the box. For example I have always asked students, "Why study history?" What I relish now,is that many respond, "To learn how we got here." Communication is the key and it is very important for the student to trust and respect the relationship that develops between student and tutor. With out this trust learning becomes very difficult.
In college I tutored at one of the high schools while monitoring study hall three days a week. After graduation I joined the Peace Corp. I served in the Tonga Islands in the South Pac ... read more
