Elementary Social Studies Tutors & Teachers for Lessons, Instruction or Help in Gustine, TX

I taught Social studies in the public school system. Even though I consider this to be an exciting subject, students are often bored by the subject matter. Especially something like longitude and latitude lines. To increase their interest on a beautiful Spring day I took them, a basketball, a globe and a piece of chalk outside to the basketball court. I drew a few lines and numbers on the court while the watched and wondered what I was doing.Then I split them up into teams. We played "around the world" When a student made a shot from one of the numbered lines they had to find the corresponding longitude and latitude line on the globe to get the point for their team. Word got around the school fast. As each class rotated in they were excited to be there and by the end of that chapter, I'm very proud to say that is the very 1st year every single one of those students passed that chapter

I have worked with students that had ADD, ADHD and vision impaired. We worked on projects, taking notes, worksheets and also test reviews. The subjects that I worked in was IPC (9th grade students), Geography, Biology and Enviromental Science. I have also worked with 4th and 5th grade students in the subjects of Science and Math.

One on one using "hands on" materials. Resource materials using text and exercises. Computer exercises on topics. Group activities using computer, dry erase boards, and written materials.

I have tutored friends and family for 4 years. I have also tutored others while in school and after school for 3 years. While tutoring, I try to find a way to help the student learn by finding a style that fits their personality; therefore, I do not have a preferred teaching style. I've tutored kids ages 6-14 and enjoy doing it.
