I worked as a resident assistant while I was in college and tutored several students in math. I am especially competent in the subject as I have received a minor mathematics. I've also have had the experience of providing to some of my colleges while I studied to become and engineer.
My teaching style is rooted in several things. Firstly, I strongly believe in breaking down concepts and ideas such that they are easily digestible. This not only makes things easier to comprehend but also can give the student a different perspective on a topic and lead them to understanding. Secondly, I feel that a positive attitude helps with no matter what you do, especially when teaching. A great attitude can rub off on at pupil and help them build confidence, something that is key in becoming successful in anything, let alone academics. I believe in tailoring my teaching style to individual students that I tutor. The two most important techniques I have used are translating academic concepts into everyday examples that students can readily understand and using positive reinforcement to help them towards their goals. Especially in the fields of math and science, I have found that learning by analogy and real world examples provides the surest path towards success.

When I was a high school kid, I finished the highest math class during grade 11. Since I was so good at mathematics, my teachers suggested me to tutor my classmates in math and science. During my college life I have also tutored students in mathematics, and physics.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have taken math for 4 years in college. It is a subject that I very much enjoy-so much that all of my sons are also strong in mathematics. My oldest is a national merit scholar finalist, and my youngest son is captain of his high school math team. Math is fun, like a puzzle-once the student sees this fact, they begin having more fun and less fear of the subject.
I am a patient teacher, and I use many different ways of communication. I try to find the style of learning best suited to my pupil. Removing the fear of the subject seems to be the most important part. I go through many many examples, until I feel that the student, and more importantly, the student has a feeling of confidence and mastery.

A Little Bit About Me...

At Stonehill, I developed a love for teaching and helping students work through difficult problems until the material “clicks”. I have an enthusiasm for the sciences that comes through and from my own personal experiences, I know how much a teacher/mentor figure can make in a student’s life.I try to convey the material in multiple ways to make it more understandable and relatable. I believe in guiding students to the correct answer, even if it means going astray, rather than solving problems for them,as this allows for the development of independent thinking and learning. I am patient and dedicated and believe that education is critical and that everyone should have the chance to succeed at it.

A Little Bit About Me...

When I taught sailing to young kids, I used to dress up like a pirate. I have lots of energy. I know I'm doing my job right when kids start laughing. When I taught to teenagers, I kept in mind my own experiences at that age. If I'm helping a student study hard on that big, important test that might have the ability to crush the student's soul - I bust out my acoustic guitar and sing about how It's The End of The World As We Know It (And This Test Means Very Little In The Long Run).
I recently graduated cum laude from the University of Rhode Island with two Bachelors of Science in Marine Geology and Maritime Law. I teach sailing and environmental education in the summers. This means very little however as I aspire, one day, to become a lighthouse keeper. Sadly, few can find such a position these days. I enjoy writing, science, mathematics, literature and most all musi ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I developed a patient style of simply allowing a student to set his own pace yet make sure he lives up to his own promises. Making lasting commetments allowes the student to take controle of his own improvement, yet allows me to see what he need direction in. In showing the student alternative practices, he will see the benifit in changing his ways for the better.
I am seeking a degree in Finance and Actuarial Sciences from the University of Connecticut.
