A Little Bit About Me...

I studied post secondary in high school and graduated in the top ten of my class. I was on the deans list every year of my college career. I was a teachers aid at the University of Minnesota for three years in the anatomy department. I was a the lead embalmer for the University and worked for the Anatomy bequest program. I was licensed in mortuary science in 2007 and have been working as a funeral director and Retail manager for the past three years.
I believe that the purpose of tutoring is to help students help themselves, or to assist or guide them to the point at which they become an independent learner. I know that the content knowledge is an essential ingredient for a tutor; however, to be truly effective, i believe a tutor must combine content knowledge with empathy, honesty and humor. As a recent graduate of Saint John’s University, I possess many skills that make me a great tutor candidate. I graduated with a BA in Biology, along with a minor in secondary education and teaching certification pending the completion of my student teaching in fall 2010. Throughout college, I held many teaching and tutoring positions. I was a site coordinator for the Fast Forward Youth Program, where I tutored underrepresented high school students and helped them gain college access. Other positions included counseling high school students at a youth in theology and ministry institute and volunteering as a catechist for 5th grade students at the St. Joseph Lab School.
