After serving 4 years in the US Air Force I got out and completed my undergraduate degree in chemistry at the University of West Florida. I relate well to high school and college students. I'm from Indiana originally and decided to come back and pursue an MBA at the University of Indianapolis. I enjoy tutoring students and helping them see the beauty of math and science. I always try to encourage the student to do the problems on his or her own, especially in math. I feel I have enough experience in math to be able to try different angles or come up with examples to help the student understand the concepts. While I am happy to explain concepts and answer specific questions, many students merely ask “Can you show me how to do this?” While a demonstration is useful and necessary the first few times, I will then switch to leading questions to allow the student to recall the appropriate next steps. It is also useful to have the student explain what they DO understand about a problem to better identify what they DON’T understand and why.
