I have always worked with children. I have been a part of many volunteer projects surrounding children as well as direct related jobs. I have worked with children with various learning abilities and overall capabilities. I believe it is important for children to have someone to help them understand their educational tasks. Every one can learn. Sometimes an individual learns in their own unique style and finding that style is the key to teaching them. The best way to teach someone is to guide them when they come to a road block, rather than to give them the answer. The amount of pride and prestige that comes from having figured out a problem on their own is the most important thing.

A Little Bit About Me...

The majority of my experience lies within the field of Human Services/Counseling. However, I have substitute taught for about 18 months, elementary level and high school level. In addition, I have tutored foreign languages on a college level for two semesters.
I have always enjoyed teaching. I try to take into consideration the individual's learning style when teaching. Many kids learn best when a "hands on" approach is incorporated into the lecture or instruction. Oft times it is difficult to find a teaching style or method that can be equally useful to people of different learning types. I have found that teaching methods common to experiential educators, common practice in such disciplines as SCUBA diving, First Aid/CPR, Martial Arts, Art, etc., can be successfully applied to virtually any academic discipline. No two children are the same, and we know that this is correct, so therefore it applies to their learning ability as well. I really want to help kids succeed in school and be in charge of their learning even after I am no longer their tutor. I like to inspire them to learn.
As an undergraduate at MIT, I have a deep understanding of mathematical concepts, and have complete master of those taught at the high school level.
