Tutor for the summer

I use the iPad (excellent resource) books, worksheets and materials I make to fit the situation.
I am a speech therapist with 11 years and experience. I have worked with students pre-k through 12th grade, primarily pre-k through 5th grade. I have extensive experience working with students on reading comprehension, answering and asking questions, semantics of language (antonyms, synonyms, multiple meanings of words, attributes, categorization), syntax, grammar, phonics and much more! I have mainly worked with kids with disabilities, including autism, developmental delays, communication delays, speech and language impairment, and Down Syndrome. Helping students learn and learn how to grow

My teaching experience is broad across subjects and age levels. Learning and teaching excite me and I like to think that attitude rubs off on my students. It can be fun to learn, and even those subjects a student does not find enjoyable, can prove satisfying. I've taught middle school and high school, as well as at Bellevue College, Renton technical College, and North Seattle Community College. As a regular classroom teacher, I felt hampered due to class size. I was never satisfied connecting with just a few students. Every student was important to me. I realized that the only way for me to really reach students was by reducing the teacher-student ratio. As a tutor, I found that teaching smaller groups of students or one-on-one was for me. Using this style, I feel strongly that students learn more, particularly at home. Students are much more comfortable at home which creates an excellent environment for learning. Learning is a joyful experience and students have a better chance of tapping into their potential.

A Little Bit About Me...

As a psychology major I was fascinated with how the mind works in all arenas. I learned the various methodologies used in teaching people and found in my tutoring that finding a way to present even the most difficult material in a manner to make it understandable is greatly satisfying. Through tutoring and teaching others I gained a higher comprehension of the material at hand and learned more about both myself and people in general. I firmly believe that there's no such thing as an idea or topic that can not be taught to someone who wants to learn regardless of academic leveling.
