For writing, usually I conduct some exercises. The level of the critique and what to say depends heavily on the age of the student. For grammar, I would either find or create my own practice materials and we could go over whatever is necessary until I've decided that the student is making improvements or the student has succeeded.
Over the past year, I have tried to extend my ability to share my love and appreciation of English and literature with others. I began as a middle school English teacher in the Bronx a decade ago. For ten years I’ve taught English language and literacy skills in New York, Oakland and Ecuador. I speak Spanish and have a second master’s degree in journalism. I achieved humbling recognition as a writer and producer of print and radio journalism in Alabama and New York.
