When the conventional has not worked!!!

Student-centered, Co-intentional. I believe that the key to learning is the motivation to want to learn. Once that has been accomplished, just stand back and guide the student to what they want next.
I have worked in schools in Kentucky and Ohio. I have been a tutor, intervention aide, long term substitute teacher, and regular classroom teacher. I communicate freely with my students, and am always ranked among the most well-liked and effective instructors by my students. My best skill is helping students find what is in it for them to learn and use the material. I currently teach (adjunct) at a career College where I teach English, history, strategies for success, and communications classes.

English/Communications Background Intervention Specialist

Immediately after I obtained my bachelors degree in English/communications with a minor in journalism I began substitute teaching at Portsmouth City Schools as well as teaching developmental writing and composition English classes as an adjunct at Shawnee State University. A Little Bit About Me...

I have always been driven to achieve a high level of excellence in everything I do. As a college student, I tutored many of my friends and peers for free. I have tutored several children since graduating college for free as well, and have always enjoyed helping others learn and understand new things.
I love children of all ages. I am very patient and laid back. I am kind, and considerate of others. My goal would be to help the child learn and understand, while making the experience a fun and rewarding one. I believe everyone has the ability to do whatever they strive for. I had a teacher in my youth that made such a huge impact in my life, and I have always wanted to repay that favor to other children. As a student at Georgetown College, majoring in El. Ed., I student taught in the 1st grade. My supervising teacher said I excelled in reading, and should pursue that area. I have taught 1st-4th grades, and tutored in elementary. I also minored in piano. I have given private piano lessons and done one-on-one tutoring with children and adults. A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style is very hands on. I understand that students learn in a variety of ways. Some are hands on, and need to actually get their hands on the project to understand. Some learn by seeing it. They have to see it and then maybe write it and learn by visualizing. Some learn by listening. They can listen to a lecture and hang on to every word. I understand that all children are different, and therefore lessons have to be taylored to fit each child's learning needs. I love children and enjoy teaching. When I was teaching in a public school, I was very well liked by both children and parents. I was there for every child; not just the good ones. My goal was to take the child that other teachers talked negatively about in the lunchroom and show them that I had no problems with that same child. Teachers should not stereotype.
