Nothing is impossibile, the word itseld spells I'm possibile

I would like to advise you of the experiences I have working with the STEM program. I have completed three weeks of training in the Project Lead the Way program at the University of South Carolina in Columbia, SC. PLTW has prepare me with the tools I need to execute the STEM curriculum in Middle Schools. I was able to receive training in the areas of Automation and Robotics, Design and Modeling and Medical Detectives. These three areas in the middle school have allowed me to prepare students for the 21st century. In these three areas, students are introduced to world of engineering with building robots, designing solutions to real life problems, and the biomedical science field. The students are able to explore, think outside of their box and challenge themselves with justification of theories and principles of science, technology, engineering and math. My academic training and two ye ... read more

My tutoring style is somewhat laid-back with serious undertones. I feel the best way to learn is to not have information force fed, but to allow the individual to glean knowledge and come to an understanding of the subject gradually. While I am serious about learning and education, I also consider my sense of humor my strongest personality trait. I believe being able to interject humor into learning is often times crucial to the learning experience, as long as it comes second to actual learning.
I have a Bachelor's in Computer Science with focus on the Microsoft languages (C++, C#, ASP, dotNEt, etc.) The requirements for this degree was heavy in math. I do, however, feel better qualified in verbal and writing skills. I also have a minor in Philosophy and Theology. This ties in with my High School and middle school upbringing, having attended a Catholic middle and High school as wel ... read more

While there I was a member of TriBeta, a biological honors society, and lead biology workshops designed to help first and second year biology students get a better understanding of the fundamentals of biology. I also worked in a research lab isolating and mapping DNA from a local fish population to better understand why populations of certain subspecies were declining.

Math guru looking to help out other students with Mathematic

I am a recent college graduate. I have tutored at the University of South Carolina level in math courses from Algebra I to upper level calculus courses. I have also conducted seminars for students and professors at USCA on specially selected topics for the department to approve of my teaching skills. I have a Bachelors degree in Industrial Mathematics from University of South Carolina Aiken.
I find out from the student their level of understanding on a particular subject and then go from there. I make sure they understand the basics before we proceed further.

You want to learn. I like to teach. Let's make it happen.

I find that it is best to begin by getting to know the student, introducing myself, being friendly, and maybe talking about shared interests. This normally occurs over several sessions, but is necessary to keep out the "just another teacher" perspective. While learning, it is important to build subject matter confidence. Since there are often mental blocks or preconceptions in place (particularly in math), I find it productive and beneficial to get students to understand and believe that the work is not impossible. This helps in the transition from "I can't do this." to "How do I do this?". The best way to get there is using a show-tell-do format, where I first demonstrate, talking through examples before guiding the student through examples, then finally giving the student examples to work through solo. Central to this method is developing an understanding of where the student is ... read more

Math, Science, ACT, SAT, APs, College Apps

I'm a current pre-medical student studying Economics and Ecology & Evolutionary Biology. I am ecstatic to help my fellow Georgians achieve all of their academic goals. I have been helping my classmates with schoolwork since I can remember, and I feel like tutoring is a natural transition for me. My greatest strength is math, but I am adept in the majority of academic areas. I am able to work with kids of all ages, from fundamentals to standardized test preparation (primarily the ACT, SAT, and AP exams) to college applications. I personally lacked a great deal of guidance in preparing for college applications, so I think I would have valuable self-discovered insight concerning the process. I am very accommodating to your individual academic needs, and I will strive to make sure you get a jump start for next year. Just to establish some ethos: I scored a 35/36 on ACT math, a 2210/24 ... read more

Love children and think that all are capable of learning!

I think each child has a different learning style and once you find that they enjoy learning. I like to keep students active and do different projects that they can be creative in doing.
I graduate with my BS in Middle Grades Education on Dec 20th. I am ceritifed in Math and Social Studies and will seek my certification in Language Arts in Jan 2013. I just finished my apprenticeship at a local Middle School and loved every minute of it. I seem to be closer with the students that struggle and need that extra special help.

Medical Student who tutors in: MATH, ENGLISH and BIOLOGY

I tend to focus on an individuals weaknesses and use concrete examples to help clarify topics. I also feel it is best to understand the basics first and subsequently build upon that foundation.
I am currently in my 4th year of medical school and completed my undergraduate education at the University of California Berkeley where I received a bachelors in both Biology and Education. I tutored both math and english during my college years. Throughout my education I have received straight A's in math up to the calculus level and am most comfortable teaching elementary, pre-algebra, algebra I and II. With regards to english, I have excelled throughout my education including passing my AP exam in high school and earning A's at the college level. I have taught basic skills, creative writing, grammar, spelling and helped with personal statements. Lastly, as a medical student I have m ... read more

Profile Banner? What's this for? I'm awesome? What else?

I'm fairly laid back. I try to get to know the student first and see how they do with their work on their own and of course helping them out when needed. Occasionally, I'll give my own tests to see how well their test taking skills are and how they do under pressure. Once I get an idea of which area is their weak point, I'll prioritize the subjects so that more time is focused on their weak area whether it be reading, math, writing, or even just test taking skills. I also do a lot of fun logic puzzles to get them thinking and also creative writing projects so that they have a way to express themselves. I think it is very important for children to have a chance to break away from the standardized tests and be allowed to think outside the box starting at a young age.

Learning is not optional. Remember...

My teaching style varies from one student to another depending on their learning style and strategies. However, in most cases, I tend to fall under the natural and communicative teaching approach for most of the subject matters.
I have been teaching and tutoring a diverse student population for almost 9 years. So far, it has been a mutually interesting experience for both parts, students and teacher. I started my teaching career through instructing languages, mainly French, my native language, for the one and a half year, and then I included different sorts of Math as well till the present. I have in possession a Bachelor's degree, two Master's degrees and an ongoing PhD. My main field stream is teaching methods and theories of languages, multiple subjects and special need instruction as well. Is your child ready for Common Core GPS Math????

I have been teaching middle school math for twenty seven years. I have been tutoring for 22 years. I myself had trouble with math when I was growing up and that helps me to break the standard down in smaller steps to help the student to understand. I like to teach the concept and then use a game and/ or puzzle to reinforce it. I also am a firm believer in repetition.
