I have two years of experience as a GED tutor, and have graduated 12 students in that time. I have been a computer programmer for 40 years, including 18 years as a freelance programmer. I have dabbled in writing over the years, writing poems, short stores and vignettes. In the past three years I have begun focusing more on writing, and am 2/3 through a novel. I have studied communication, language and writing extensively on my own, and have written a grammar textbook, which I have used successfully with my GED students.
I believe in starting from the beginning and taking one step at a time, and not moving on to the next step until the current one is understood -- a surprisingly uncommon approach. IN NEED OF A JOB

I have obtained my GED and have always had straight As in high school. I'm also familiar with construction and building skills. I am a visual learner and will do my best to make the teaching fun. I have also obtained 13 college credits from Kalamazoo valley central college. The 13 credits that I have obtained are in computer skills. The computer skills that I have obtained are those for knowing and understanding how to use Microsoft word and all other programs associated with it.
I like to have a fun open minded discussion. I don't like boring so I will do my best to spice it up.

One of the reasons that I'm interested in tutoring is that, although I love working with individual students and small groups, I am less interested in classroom management, discipline and the rest of the duties that come along with substitute teaching. I am excellent at relating to students and absolutely can help those who are willing to learn. I have been able to combine different teaching strategies to fit the needs of my students. In Arizona I taught Fourth Grade where 80% of my studens were English Language Learners of Hispanic decent. This was a real leaning experience. I took the Dibels training which really helped my teaching techniques. Using Orton-Guillingham guidelines with the hundreds of hours of teacher training allowed my students to excel.
