My teaching style is direct, engaging, challenging, and encouraging. My approach to instructing and enabling each individual is different. It develops as I continue to learn about the individual's own learning style and how the individual responds to different teaching styles. I believe that a child learns best when she makes the discovery, realization, or solves the problem herself. My favorite English teacher in college affected me because he focused on my individual strengths and interests, instead of giving cookie cutter instruction. I believe this is essential in teaching, for every student learns in his own particular way. This is especially important in writing: you do not want turn a budding young Hemingway into a James Joyce, or vice versa. I believe I achieve this with empathy, a sense of humor, and my own contagious love of learning.
