My experience in tutoring began in high school when I volunteered for my local library, in a program aimed towards improving students’ reading ability. Having had considerable difficulty learning to read myself, I felt it was important that I attempt to pass this on to others. When I entered Knox College I was focusing on English, and ended up helping my fellow students with writing and editing their papers.
I have always sought to lead rather than force something upon the student by rote. Most important is to present the information in a way that is both interesting and memorable. It is my experience that people remember things better when they truly understand the process, and have reason to listen to the explanation.

A Little Bit About Me...

Teaching in a major metropolitan school district has allowed me to teach among a very diverse population. I use a variety of teaching strategies and assess my students' progress regularly. I have extensive training in measuring the learning needs of students. My strength in teaching stems from maintaining a positive learning environment, teaching at levels my students are comfortable with, and encouraging higher level thinking skills. Major subjects I am experienced in (11 years) are Accounting, Finance, Computer Applications, ACT Preparation, Job Skills, and Business Writing.
