A Little Bit About Me...

For the past two years, I was the high school English teacher in a small, rural Alaskan village located on the Yukon River. This teaching position was very challenging--I had to teach several subjects, such as English, social studies, geography, art, keyboarding, drama, journalism, and digital photography. Since the high school was so small, (30 students), much of my teaching was one-on-one instruction. I have strong English skills, as well as a minor in history and a diverse liberal arts undergraduate education. Currently I am working on my Masters of Education degree, through a distance education program.
I feel very passionate about education and learning. I think the key to teaching is to engage students, and make content interesting and relevant to their lives. I truly believe that the ideal teaching situation is via one-on-one instruction, because I feel students unders ... read more

I graduated cum laude in May 2009 with B.A. degrees in Pre-Med and English/History/Psychology. More importantly, I have tutored biology, writing/grammatical skills, English, psychology, and chemistry to a wide range of students—from college to elementary aged. I hope to put my 4 years of tutoring experience to work for you!

After graduating from Purdue University I wanted to challenge what I had learned and how I would apply that in my own classroom. I was driven to find myself as an educator and a professional. I thought a great place for a small town Indiana girl to do that would be in New York City. I found a job in Queens and never looked back. Teaching is my passion and it shows in my lessons and dedication to all of my students learning. I have been a teacher for five years now. In all five of those years I have worked for after school programs in both New York and North Carolina. I have taught test preparation classes and intervention classes. I have learned to design individual lessons that will allow each student to reach their highest potential.
I believe that creating a warm learning environment and a good relationship with a student is the first step to successful learning. When a ... read more

When I approach a student I've never worked with, my first priority is to make them feel comfortable by letting them see that I am a very nice, friendly, and compassionate person that they might like to have as a friend. Next I try to get them to tell me about themselves in some way (what they've been working on, their favorite subjects) to try to encourage them to speak freely with me about what they're thinking. Then, after personal rapport is established, I begin my academic approach to tutoring by finding out how they think based on their interests or common themes, and I try to connect the material to these things. Children have trouble learning, often because the addressed concepts don't relate to their lives. I strive to connect the material to them, demonstrate its influence on their interests, and allow them to greet the academic engagement as some sort of useful tool, not a ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

First and foremost, I love working with students. I believe all students have an ability to learn once you find the way to connect with them. I think the key is in finding that particular connection because each student is gifted in his or her own special way. All people learn differently, and I approach teaching with this understanding and appreciation of the differences in all students and their backgrounds. I think students benefit from a sort of structured guidance that sets them on the right path to learning the material but gives them the room and freedom to feel a sense of empowerment through their own discovery of the embedded lessons. I believe this sense of empowerment and the building of self-esteem through successful learning is a key factor in helping students reach their full potential academically and in life.

I love working with children of all levels. I firmly believe all children can learn if given the proper opportunity. I am a very hands on teacher, giving all students an opportunity to really connect with the concepts they are learning. I do focus on incorporating the different styles of learning because I understand all students learn differently. During lessons, I have students listen, write, do, and present. I feel students retain the information when given many opportunities to learn.
During my college career, I worked in lower income elementary schools to provide students an extra opportunity to heighten their reading skills through direct instruction. Through this experience I have gained new insight into teaching reading. I understand the importance of using small groups and one-on-one instruction. I have also had the chance to use Success for All, a different type of readin ... read more

With a bachelor degree in Child development and minor in psychology. I have learned a great deal about children and how they learn. In addition, to studying the field I have had over 6 years of experience working with the educational needs of children. I tutor students K-8 in math, reading, social studies, and science.
I have a deep passion for tutoring. Education in my opinion is an opportunity for children to learn problem solving skills that are necessary for everyday life. I have a strong belief in self discovery and I think that every student should be given the opportunity to discover things for his/her self. Teachers and tutors are there for guidance through the process. As an experience tutor I will bring a positive attitude to your company. A Little Bit About Me...

I believe all children can do well at school if they are taught correctly. Every child learns differently and it is the job of the teacher to find the style that works for the student. Some students use verbal cues to learn while others visual, hands on or a variety of other approaches. The better we teach the children today the better the future is for everyone.

A Little Bit About Me...

As a published writer, experienced editor, children's camp counselor and mom, I welcome the opportunity to -- once again -- share my skills. After being sought out as a trusted source for my expertise by professional copywriters as well as family and friends, I look forward to helping students of all ages. When not writing or editing, I am also a classically trained pianist. I've played for hundreds of shows, singers and dancers, including camps, schools, and the North Carolina Theatre.
I take pride in my own writing style as well as my patience and a sense of humor. All enable me to empathize and better understand the needs of the individual seeking my help.
